The film story follows a television network newscaster, who comes upon an unusual story lead. One of his crews, on a routine assignment, brings in footage from a Jesus Festival. He previews clips of young people who believe in the iminent return of Jesus Christ to planet earth. Amused at first, the newsman decides to spoof the story. An avalanche of mail response, however, indicated a degree of interest and awareness previously unknown to him.

As a result, he plunges into a serious investigation of the subject which takes him across the country and includes a survey in Israel. The councilmanic candidate said he sees "a lack of coordination" in efforts to improve the city, as well as insufficient public contact by its leaders. If elected to the Council, Mr.

Steffey promised to be "accessible to the people and to listen to what they have to say." He said he believes in "laying it right down the line" in relations with other people. Speaking of the need for Staunton to develop its assets, Mr. Steffey expressed his conviction that community's leadership "must never tear down, but add to what's already here." Mr. Steffey is president of NOR Sandwich Shoppes, and operates restaurants at 627 Greenville Ave. here and in Harrisonburg.

Before turning to the restaurant business, the candidate taught Virginia history and government for seven years at both Shelburne and John Lewis junior high schools. A Staunton native, he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1959 and won his bachelor of arts degree in philosophy at Bridgewater College in 1963. He had done graduate work at the College of William and Mary, where he took courses in education and colonial history. He also took post graduate courses in education at the University of Virginia and studied national and international government at seminars in Washington, D.

and at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin G. Steffey, he is married to the former Virginia Vere Humphreys of Kilmarnock in Tidewater area.

Although the couple currently lives at Manchester Townhouses just outside the city limits, Mr. Steffey maintains a Staunton voting residence at 627 Greenville Ave. ASSEMBLY (Continued from Page 1) three legislative employes who work, more or less, behind the scenes. Girl Found With Coeyman By N-V Staff Writer STAUNTON Augusta County Sheriff John E. Kent said that Margaret Campbell, 18, of Waynesboro, was with Thomas Leon Coeyman, 22, when he was arrested Thursday in Lakeland, Fla.

Coeyman was the object of a manhunt after he escaped from State Road Camp 25 in Haymarket on Dec. 26. He was arrested in Florida and charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. He was at the roadcamp following conviction on several counts of forgery and bad check charges. Sheriff Kent said there have been no charges placed against the Campbell woman as far as he knows.

He said he presumes Coeyman will be extradicted to South Carolina where police say he robbed a family at gunpoint. Augusta County Sheriff's Deputies found the family's stolen car on a private road in a mountainous section east of Sherando on Tuesday. LEGISLATORS (Continued from Page 1) Legislature would be ready to function in earnest when it returned. Another part of his plan calls for a second adjournment of about 10 days, then a return for what he called a "veto override session." At present, he noted, there is no mechanism for the Assembly to consider vetoes of bills enacted in the closing days. Such a system, he said, would retain 60-day meeting guideline, but might avoid a situation like Friday's in which legislators were paid even though not in session.

He conceded it might require an amendment to the Constitution, which specifies 60 consecutive working days. Another speaker last night was Sen. David Thornton of Salem, who reviewed current issues. Lester Dalton, retired extension agent, was master of ceremonies. SEALMARK ROCk OF AGES.
