One and Done Selections - The Charles Schwab Challenge

In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Joe Idone, Matt Miller, Byron Lindeque, and our special guest will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

Joe Nicely - Tony Finau

Big Tone has been pretty cool this season, but there’s a chance things could heat up in Texas. While Colonial isn’t the best fit for his game on paper, Finau has nonetheless posted two top-five finishes in the Schwab across the past five years.

He comes in off an astounding performance with the irons last week at Valhalla, as he gained 9.6 strokes on Approach while struggling to figure much out on the greens. It’s been the story of 2024 for Tony, though like Xander last week, things will eventually click if he keeps putting himself in good positions.

Spencer Aguiar - Adam Scott

Alternate - Sepp Straka

I realize this pick is coming straight out of left field. It ishonestlyso far in itsownterritory that it shouldprobablyreside directly in Adelaide, Australia. However, Iam going togo entirely against the grain with this choice and try to steal a top-end finish from someone NOBODY is going to play this week.

Many of my two-pick contests have a lot more life because of hitting Wyndham Clark at Pebble Beach, but I do find myself in this situation where one-pick OAD builds need a solo cash that no one will share in the group.

There is a route to be even more boom-or-bust than this if you want to roll the dice with J.T. Poston, but my model is aggressively more bullish on Adam Scott's upside than you will hear in the space.

Scott's Texas history hasbeen pronouncedthroughout his career, and he graded as one of only four players to crack the top 36 of all six categories I ran this week.

With the other three landing as top-five choices in popularity, I will trust my model and try to outsmart the competition with the all-time great UNLV product.

Yearly Earnings - $6,072,064
Yearly Cuts Made - 15/18

Byron Lindeque - Collin Morikawa

Xander at Wells Fargo (2nd), wins the PGA Championship.
Benny An at the Bryon Nelson ($380,000), T3 at Wells Fargo
Rory at RBC Heritage, wins at Wells Fargo

Scottie at Genesis (T10), went WIN WIN 2ND WIN WIN in his next five starts

So, it's safe to say that whatever tournament Bryson DeChambeau tees it up in next, he is likely going to crush, er, excuse the pun? Anyway, he did well for us at the PGA with our 2nd runner up in consecutive OADs, but hey, such is life … sorry, I feel like I am just perennially moaning about poor results but we have been so close, yet, so far.

I am going to jump in on the Collin Morikawa “momentum” after he finished T4 at the PGA Championship despite losing three strokes putting on Sunday. Even with the Sunday scaries on the greens, Morikawa managed to continue a fantastic run of T4, T16, 9th and a T3 at the Masters rolling full steam ahead. The kind of run that usually sees a golfer of his caliber, imminently cashing in on a win.

Collin’s form is immaculate, he is back with his old swing coach that had him an elite iron player, and until the long irons return to form with the new coach, we have a golf course that presents roughly 75% of its shots from inside 200 yards, which is exactly where Collin continues to thrive from despite the longer irons struggling.
