Nothing says Saturday mornings like homemade waffles for breakfast.

But when our boys were toddlers, we almost didn’t get to experience this fun weekend tradition.

Because, dang it, my kids were allergic to both milk and eggs.

Surely you can’t make waffles without those ingredients, right? Or can you?

In true allergy mom style, I set out on a mission.

Allergies weren’t going to stop the waffle train at this house. No ma’am.

Thankfully, low and behold, we discovered an amazing waffle recipe without BOTH milk and egg.

And in fact, this recipe doesn’t even call for milk or egg replacers. It’s that easy.

Crazy as it sounds, these waffles use just water instead of milk.

But don’t knock ’em til you try ’em!

The flavor has a perfect hint of vanilla.

One allergy mama even suggested that they taste like an ice cream cone. We will take it!

Trust me, nobody’s gonna know these have no milk or egg.

Furthermore, this recipe is perfect for making waffles ahead of time to save you time.

Double or triple the recipe and refrigerate the waffles for a few days.

Or freeze these waffles for weeks.

Either way, these waffles reheat well.

Our busy moms love this easy breakfast hack!

WHEAT WAFFLES

If not allergic to wheat, can you make these waffles with wheat flour? Sure!

This recipe calls for 2 and 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour.

And we’ve successfully made them with a mix of white and wheat flour.

Our favorite flour ratio:

  • 1 and 1/2 cups white flour
  • 1 cup wheat flour

If you use a different mix of flours, we’d love to hear in the comments.

HOW TO FREEZE WAFFLES

  • move rack to freezer to flash freeze
  • place waffles in airtight containers or freezer bags
  • label with the date
  • store in the freezer

HOW TO FREEZE WAFFLES FOR TODDLERS

Waffles were one of our favorite dairy-free toddler snacks.

While most toddlers won’t eat a whole waffle in one sitting…

homemade waffles can easily be broken into quarters for little hands and mouths.

So perfect.

If you’re freezing no milk, no egg waffles for your toddler,

you may want to break them into quarter sizes before flash freezing and putting in a freezer bag.

This way they will stretch even further and nothing will go to waste.

Your toddlers will love these! No syrup even needed.

Quartered waffles definitely make for a fun finger food.

HOW TO REHEAT FROZEN WAFFLES

Since these no milk, no egg waffles lend themselves to reheating so well…

here’s our favorite way to do it!

Whether the waffles are coming from the refrigerator or the freezer,

we reheat the same way.

If frozen, however, we let them sit out for about 15 minutes to thaw a little.

Set them out, brush your teeth, take a shower…then your waffles will be ready to heat.

To reheat waffles…

first, we microwave thawed waffles until they are heated through, 30 seconds at time.

If you like really soft, limp waffles, you can stop there.

But we like a little crunch so we then toast the hot waffles.

Just pop them in your toaster or toaster oven and toast them.

Then you’re good to go!

The microwave heats them through quickly.

The toaster crisps them up perfectly.
