The City of New Orleans has released a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) on May 6th, 2024 to support an organization that provides outreach and rapid rehousing for at least 20 individuals or families within the French Quarter experiencing homelessness. The project is funded by $365,607 of the City of New Orleans’ French Quarter Economic Development District Sales Tax.
The City of New Orleans has recently committed $194 million to fund priority projects that meet the needs of our community, strengthen our local social safety net, and build a safer, healthier community for the future.
The deadline to apply for the available funding isJune 5, 2024. A virtual information session will be held for interested applicantson May 22nd, 2024.
New Orleans has suffered a recent spike in unsheltered homelessness. According to the 2023 Point-in-Time Count conducted by UNITY of Greater New Orleans, 553 people were sleeping on the street or in a location not intended for human habitation. That represented nearly a 50% increase from 2022. Ending homelessness requires a collaborative effort across public and private partners.
Specifically, the City of New Orleans is looking to support an organization to provide a targeted rapid rehousing program for homeless in the French Quarter that will provide immediate housing in coordination with local landlords and necessary support services for at least 20 individuals with the requirement that those individuals transition from FQEDD-supported rental assistance to other long-term state or federal housing funding by the end of the program. Assistance includes but is not limited to staffing support, subsidies to landlords, new programs and program expansion.
